Including a charitable bequest to the East County Senior Center Legacy Fund in your will is a simple way to make a lasting gift to your community.  When you make this gift, you are making a choice that benefits the community forever and becomes your personal legacy of giving.

 

How it works

·        You include the East County Senior Center Legacy Fund in your will as a bequest; we can help you or your attorney with recommended language.

·        We are pleased to recognize you as a Legacy Society member (if you prefer, you may remain anonymous).

·        Your charitable gift to the Legacy Fund is excluded from your assets for estate tax purposes.

·        We handle all the administrative details.

·        Your gift will be placed into an endowment that is invested over time.  Your gift—and all future earnings from your gift—is a permanent source of capital for the Senior Center, helping to do good work forever.

Making a bequest to the East County Senior Center Legacy Fund is an easy way to transfer assets to this important charity.   And, you can decide to do it at any age by adding to an existing will or drafting a new one.  In doing so you leave a legacy to your community, while enjoying the assets you need to maintain your current lifestyle.  Plus, you are able to distribute some or all of your assets, tax free.

 

You can leave a gift of cash, real estate, appreciated stocks, life insurance, or other assets.  Some of the most tax-efficient asset types to give to the Fund through your will come from retirement plan accounts, since heirs would be taxed on the income in respect of the decedent.  You can choose to give a stated dollar amount, a specific property, a percentage of your estate, the remainder after distributions to other beneficiaries, or you can make your gift contingent on certain events.

 

Example-The Gift of a Lifetime

Kay* and her husband owned a small business and enjoyed success and prominence in the Skykomish Valley. She and her husband found that the East County Senior Center was a wonderful asset in the community.  They recently decided it was time to update their wills.  Part of their plan was to give something back to the community that they loved as both residents and business owners.  As Kay put it: “Not only did we love this town, but we felt as though we owed it a lot for the success of our business.” With the help of their professional advisor, they chose to revise their wills to include an inheritance for their adult children, with the remainder to the East County Senior Center Legacy Fund.  Because it will be endowed, their gift will provide a growing source of funding for the important work of the senior center.  They feel good knowing that when they are gone, their legacy will be one of helping others strengthen our community.
